She writes: ‘The spaciousness and breadth of views of land and of skies excited him…..he felt he had come to his own country, though he had never before been to this particular stretch of the South Downs, with Mount Caburn to the north and Firle Beacon to the east’. A rare and quintessential Ravilious.
