Description

‘Tour de Force’ is of course a pun on ‘Tour de France’ – the annual multiple stage cycling race held primarily in France and thought to be one of the hardest sporting activities known, hence ‘Tour de Force’. Here you get a sense of the endeavour required to climb never ending hills, the last in line a mere dot in the background. You also see how each races as an individual yet also as a group, the entire climbing caterpillar like up the steep ascent of the mountain. An exceptional depiction.

FramingYour print is bespoke framed using pH neutral materials and conservation-grade mounts.

About This Artist

Lisa Takahashi

Lisa Takahashi is a printmaker based in Bristol, England. Born in 1981 to a Japanese mother and an English father Takahashi grew up in North London before studying Fine Art at Bath Spa University College and Middlesex University. Subsequent to her studies she worked as assistant to artists Stephen Walter and Hugo Grenville. She then opened a studio in London where she worked both as painter in oils and watercolour, before moving her studio to Bristol where she concentrates on printmaking, more specifically on linocut prints.

Takashashi references the Grosvenor School in her linocuts (Cyril Power, Sybil Andrews; Lill Tschudi, see Artists). She pares down detail to find essential shapes, and uses geometry to emphasise form. She concentrates often on movement and sport, specifically, in many of her prints, on cycling where she finds a natural geometry both in the shapes of the individual cyclists and in the pattern produced by the group.
