Wood Engraving (1933). Original size 22.2 x 26.3cm. Of this month Leighton writes: ‘May is a white month. Sheared sheep and daisies in the meadows, chestnut candles and hawthorn snow in the hedgerows, white of blossom in the orchards. White clouds toss and float across the sky, and white clothes blow on the washing line in cottage gardens’.
