Holloway, John - Uffington White Horse (Click to enlarge)

Description

The White Horse on the Berkshire Downs has, of course, had an impact on so many cultural forms - from Henry Moore’s sculpture to Chesterton’s poetry and the literature of Thomas Hughes (of 'Tom Brown’s Schooldays' fame). And of course Eric Ravilious was also fascinated by the White Horse (see prints). But whereas Ravilious situates the Horse right at the top of the picture, Holloway frames it through use of the chalk paths, and the Horse is situated centrally within the photograph.
