Description:

Watercolour and ink. Illustration from Ardizzone’s classic picture book Tim’s Friend Towser, 1962.

Says Captain Piper: …..’there’s a dog on board and I won’t have dogs on my ship. Can you see it?’

‘No Sir’……

‘Strange, said the Captain, I must have imagined it’.

Tim and Ginger discover an abandoned puppy in a lifeboat; they name it Towser and smuggle it aboard ship. But Captain Piper hates dogs….

The print depicts Tim and Towser nose to nose. Towser has slipped his lead and is on the poop deck.
