Edward Ardizzone - Barmaids Old and New

Description:
Lithograph – one amongst a series depicting London pubs.*
Two types of attractiveness are depicted in this print, and each evokes its own response. Barmaids new lean back, and in the painting of a pouting mouth create the attentiveness desired. Barmaids old lean forward, and in solicitous kindness evoke a benevolence of response no less important to the regular drinkers at this side of the bar. This is joyous and pure Ardizzone.
