Cyril Power - The Eight

Description:

Linocut (1930). Original image size: 32.3 x 23.4cm. Printed from 4 blocks: chrome orange; permanent blue; pale chrome and Chinese blue. This is certainly one of the most admired of Power’s prints and Power was justly pleased with it and presented a copy to his eldest son, Dr. E R Roper Power.  Not far from Power’s studio in London was Hammersmith Bridge; from here Power could watch the racing skulls skim along the Thames in practice for the Head of the River race.

He made some ten sketches and drawings in preparation for the final print, and the result has been acclaimed. There is accuracy in the depiction of the rowers; harmony in its choice of colours and the geometry has been likened to an arrangement of seeds or leaves on a plant.

Size: 42.0 x 30.0; paper: 59.3 x 42.0cm.

Format: Giclée Print, Limited Edition (1/950) on 310 gsm thick, 100% cotton rag. Embossed: Bookroom Art Press seal

Price: £175.00
