Description

Wood Engraving (1933). Original size 21.5 x 25.5cm. Spring is very nearly upon the farmer, and with a rhythmic movement of the right hand the sower, to quote Leighton, ‘flings the seed out upon the earth before him, a figure of generosity. It is the simplest, most spontaneous gesture imaginable, but on the exactness of his fling depends the farmer’s crop for this year’.
