GALLERY

What’s on

The Bookroom Art Press prints are on permanent display by appointment at the Gallery. We also hold exhibitions of original work. The exhibitions are of further work by artists we already publish; work by contemporaries of these artists, or work which is related to our publication specialties. But we also champion emerging artists working across the range of media: from print-making to painting, collage to sculpture, pots to textiles.

Printing

Printing

The quality of our prints is recognised as amongst the finest available. We use a giclée process. Giclée is a high-resolution, high-fidelity process which considerably surpasses in quality photo-lithographically produced images. We use genuine mould-made 310gms thick, 100% cotton rag. The pigments are archival eight-colour Ultra-Chrome and lightfast to exceed 7 on the Blue Wool Scale.

Hand-Numbering and Embossing

Hand-Numbering and Embossing

Each print is hand-finished. We number our prints 1/500; 1/850 or 1/950 using pencil just below the image on the right-hand side. We also hand-emboss each print with the Bookroom Art Press seal. The embossed seal is placed off the image in the right-hand corner of the paper. (NB: due to copyright restrictions the seal on the Cyril Power prints is discreetly placed on the right-hand corner of the image).

Framing

Framing

We bespoke frame all of our prints. We use a museum-grade white core mount, and 2mm UV filtering safety glazing with glass or acrylic. Choice of frame can be made online or by appointment. We are happy to advise – either by telephone or in person at the Gallery.

trade

Trade

Enquiries from trade customers are welcome. We supply our prints nationwide to galleries and framers, and we work regularly with those professionals who provide a picture supply service for commercial or private clients. Two-thirds of each edition of any print is available for trade purchase, the remaining third is reserved. We supply our prints unwrapped or, to ensure ease of retail sale, we supply the prints ready-wrapped on white mount board, with stickers and a biographical peel-off label. Please contact us to set up an account.

Contract Printing

Contract Printing

We contract print for select museums and galleries in the UK. Using the latest digital techniques, materials and equipment we provide a single point of contact to oversee the process. We use origination provided, or expertly photograph and scan the original work. We soft proof on-screen using a colour calibrated monitor, and once the appropriate paper has been chosen, we provide a hard copy for approval. We also provide storage and distribution services for those commercial customers whose work we print. Please contact us to discuss your project.

Papers

We import our paper from a small maker in Germany who specializes in mould made substrates. The cotton rags (or fibres) are combined with spring water. A round mould within a vat then rotates these, slowly capturing the fibres as it does so. The amount of fibre collected determines the thickness of the paper. This ‘fleece’ is then placed into a paper machine and pressed, to give it a graded surface. We choose the surface for each print. Sometimes a rougher paper is enhancing of the artwork; at other times a smoother substrate is more appropriate. We deckle edge the paper ourselves. This involves carefully tearing the edges, using a deckle rule, to produce the feathered edges.
